Training is available online for the END USER at your convenience for ALL brands of Powder Actuated Tools. Certification is required by OSHA, prior to using a Powder Actuated Tool.
All of our team members at The Pro Group are Certified Competent Persons. As a Competent Person we can test and inspect equipment, and are qualified to install Horizontal Life Lines. All equipment in need of repair is sent back to the original manufacturer for repair and re-certification.

The Pro Group offers Qualitative Respirator Fit Testing to be performed in accordance with OSH 29 CFR 1910.134. We can arrange your safety personnel, to be trained and certified by the manufacturer.

The Pro Group provides Hands-On Safety Training for all tools and equipment available for purchase or rent, including Core-Drilling, Concrete Floor Grinding and Polishing, and Concrete Anchor Installations, by arranging your safety personnel to be trained and certified by the manufacturer.

User/Operator Responsibility:
- It is the responsibility of the user (renter/purchaser) to keep and maintain all manuals supplied with the aerial platform.
- The user (renter/purchaser) is responsible to insure that only trained, qualified, and authorized personnel are allowed to operate the aerial work platform. Training should be scheduled in advance of your rental or purchase. Contact us or call us at 1-888-776-0007 for more information.
- It is the responsibility of the user (renter/purchaser) to insure that any occupant of a Self Propelled Aerial Work Platform be properly secured to the platform by the use of a proper Body Harness and a Self Retracting Lifeline.
- The Operator (renter/purchaser) is responsible for operating the Aerial Work Platform within the limits of intended use as defined by the manufacturer in the Operator’s Manual and Job-Site and Governmental Regulations.
- The Operator (renter/purchaser) is responsible for insuring they have received proper training and are familiar with the specific model to be operated.
- It is the operator’s(renter/purchaser) responsibility to perform function tests before each work shift to insure proper operation of the Aerial Work Platform. A malfunctioning lift must NEVER be used. Contact The Pro Group immediately for service.
- The Operator must insure that the manuals are in the storage box on the platform and must read them before operation.
Massachusetts has regulations covering hoisting equipment (520 CMR 6.00) which covers any equipment with a “minimum capability of hoisting the load higher than 10 feet or that has the capability of lifting loads greater than 500 pounds or if the capacity of the bucket exceeds 1/4 cubic yard capacity.”
Some common equipment which meets this specification includes:

To utilize these types of equipment you must have a permanent Hoisting Engineers License or a Temporary Permit.
We can quickly , conveniently and easily help you get a temporary permit. We have an online training program approved by the state and are authorized to issue Temporary Permits to renters who complete our training program.
1. What is a Temporary Permit?
A Temporary Hoisting Permit allows someone with a short term need to use specific hoisting equipment for a limited time period.
2. What’s it good for?
A Temporary Permit is only valid for skid steers, mini excavators and backhoes weighing less than 8,000 pounds. It is only good at the rental facility it was issued by and only for the
equipment classification(s) it was issued for.
3. How long is it good for?
A Temporary Permit is good for fourteen consecutive days. You may have only one Temporary Permit, from any rental facility, in any 45 day period.
4. How do I get a Temporary Permit?
We have an online training program which is approved and authorized by the Commonwealth.
The course consists of 45 minutes of online training and and an additional 15 minutes or more of hands-on training.
The online portion may be taken any time (even months ahead) of your rental needs. The Temporary Permit is issued upon completion of the hands-on portion when you are ready to rent. You need to take a course for every classification (skid steer, backhoe or mini excavator) of equipment you plan to use.

When you have completed the online portion, we will be notified and will hold a copy of your permit until you are ready to use it. You do not want to “activate” the permit until you are actually ready to rent the equipment.
5. What can I rent with a Temporary Permit?
You can rent skid steers, backhoes, and excavators weighing less than 8,000 pounds, excluding forklifts.
6. What type of training is provided?
The training you will receive has been mandated by the Department of Public Safety and they have approved the curriculum. The training includes a combination of awareness of Massachusetts Laws, Dig Safe rules, OSHA regulations and safety information specific to the classification(s) of equipment you intend to use. We will provide you additional hands-on training at one of our four convenient locations.
7. How long does all this take?
The online portion is 45 minutes per permit classification. The hands-on portion will be a minimum of 15 minutes.
8. I am planning to do some work in a few weeks, when should I get my Temporary Permit?
You can, and should, take the online portion as soon as possible, so that it’s ready when you are ready. You do not want to “activate” the Temporary Permit with us until the day you will actually be using the equipment.
In short, you can take care of the online portion anytime prior to your rental date. We will activate the Temporary Permit on the day of rental.
9. How much does Pro Equipment Rental make on this?
Nothing. Fee’s paid to the online training company are not shared with us.
10. Do I need any other licenses to get a Temporary Permit?
By law you will need a valid Driver’s License.
